on the road-creativity in worship
the waking was early for nicho|as and the band today. As we rose long before dawn and packed our handy trailer, we were tired but also excited for our across-iowa road trip. Of the 5 of us piled into travis’ blazer, I sit in the space in the back intended for cargo and traveling items. Quite content with my lounge area, I slept for the 1st few hours of the trip. after reading an article by Matt Redman on creativity in worship, I am left wondering what can be done in the worship that we do to express ourselves in new forms and fashions. Travis made a wise comment a couple weeks ago that worship isn’t a set style and form. We should be able to worship with whatever style and creative shape we desire. Like art, it is left to the beholder to interpret, and the only interpreter that makes any difference in worship is God, himself. “One of the reasons we encounter a lack of creativity in the church is that we have not made the right environment for it. In an environment of harsh criticism, and no room for artistic experimentation or risk-taking, the creative flow will soon perish.”n -matt redman I think one of my main goals with this music is to create worship that is artistically fresh and reflects my own style and creativity and not what church culture says worship is.
