Christ & Christ Alone in Czech
This afternoon, we had workshops with the musicians, singers and would-be worship leaders of Kolin. Our job was to teach them how to play a couple songs, and some essentials of playing in a worship band, and tuesday we will have an outdoor concert on an island nearby where they will play with us in the worship set.
We taught them the ins ands outs of a fast song like “Your Name is Great.” A lot of the singers new english so we sang in english. then we had the idea to translate the simple chorus of “Christ and Christ Alone” which I recorded last year, into czech and try to sing both. By this time, an hour or two into our workshop, there was a large group that had joined us sitting in the theater seats as well as the musicians and small choir of youth that came to the workshop to sing.
One girl, Mary (english name) was very nice to translate the one line song and teach me to pronounce the words. Although I felt very much like I was butchering it, we sang the line, “Jezis, Jezis Sa’m, Je Mov Pisni” over an over with the band and choir. I decided i wouldn’t remember for how to say it unless I recorded it, so i set my laptop out front and caught the song during our rehearsal. The recording is very rough, but if you’d like, here it is.
Christ and Christ Alone
As we sang, the entire room sat, observed and then joined in with this chorus.
“Christ and Christ alone, will be our song.”
